Commit

We stay open and faithful to the path, even when the way is unclear or doors close.

‍ This is the artist’s discipline and the contemplative’s consent. We return, we remain, we stay present. Commitment steadies us in the slow work of formation and creativity.

Mark 2:2b-3

While he was preaching God’s word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat.

The crowd is thick,

Like London and San Francisco fog had an offspring.

Even a dime wouldn't have been able to

Squeeze through the

Cracks and crevices.

Doubt is trying to push them back to the starting line,

To the nosebleed seats, beyond

Mustard seed faith that dares to chase a miracle.

The friends do not turn back.

They stand resolute,

Grab more tightly to mat corners,

Press forward and decide

To Commit...

Commitments latch onto us like

Skin seeping deep into bones

Shivering and shaking loose

Fear and her cousins who seek to pause us

To commit...

To chase a miracle...
