Challenged

God meets us in our assumptions and exposes our inner resistance.

This is where disruption becomes uncomfortable. We are confronted by what we cling to, what we fear, what we avoid. Being challenged is not condemnation; it is invitation.

Mark 2:6-10a

6 But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, 7 “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”

8 Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts?

9 Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’?

10 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.”

 Not everyone was happy.

With found miracles.

Mumbling starts.

Criticism pieces the air.

Voices create doubt.

The miracle is muffled.

Jesus adjusts his attention.

He gazes on those who should have known better.

Speaks their inner dialogues,

Exposes their resistance to grace,

Confronts their skewed views on forgiveness,

Silences their assumptions and leaves them

Challenged...

To be challenged by God is always a sign.

God is seeking to seep into hearts

Made numb by denial

Human-centered miracles,

Hurt by what God could and didn’t do.

God is chasing us, reminding us…

To be challenged by God is to be loved.
